MILENA GURGEL is a brazilian singer, percussionist, composer and arranger. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1981, started studying piano for twoo years at the age of 9. As a teenager, fascinated by the different rythms and sounds of the percussion instruments, enrolled in Villa Lobos Music School and later in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, studying orchestral percussion. Popular brazilian and latin percussion came naturally as a consequence of her studies, playing with friends and doing her research on brazilian rythms. In the music school, Milena started singing in a choir – which aroused her interest in singing as well. Having a background in music theory and harmony, she chose private singing tutors who could give her what she wanted, and now, she continues to research singing styles and techniques on her own. Having good language skills, she sings in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Italian. Milena has taken part in the Young Brazilian Symphony Orchestra of Rio de Janeiro, the Villa Lobos Popular Orquestra and the quartet Cacoré. She has also accompanied singers in different styles as a session and stage percussionist and has participated in musical plays.
ARLEY ALVES plays 6 and 7-string acoustic guitar, viola caipira (a typical brazilian instrument), semi-acoustic guitar and is also a singer, composer and arranger. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1971, started studying music on his own at the age of 14, and later on studied in some renowned music schools in Rio the Janeiro, such as Villa Lobos music school. Studying the acoustic guitar, he’s seen classic, flamenco, jazz and brazilian styles and choose the two last ones to focus on. Singing came along with playing, and he has studied operistic and popular styles, making a nice and particular blend of both. Arley has taken part in instrumental music groups such as, Cacoré and the Villa Lobos acoustic guitar orchestra, the vocal quartets Aguaraterra and Trem de doido, the Bossa Nova trio Regra Três and has accompanied singers in different styles as a session and stage musician and arranger. He has also signed the music direction of the play “Neide e Ele”, for which he composed and arranged pieces of music.
